Privacy policy

We collect only what we need to make good introductions. Your contact details are hidden until you and a place have both said yes. Your date of birth is used once, quietly, for age-appropriate work checks and is never shown to anyone. Your chats with Someo are read by an AI model to draft your picture — you approve it before any place sees it. We never sell your data.

Someo is a trading name of Baby Fat Limited, which is registered in England and Wales (company number 09396116), at 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, and is the data controller for the information described here. For anything about your data, write to privacy@someo.uk.

Account basics — your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text), plus the moment you agreed to these terms.

Your picture — the traits, what you'd enjoy doing, availability, general location (a town or neighbourhood, never your exact address unless you add it privately), how far you'd travel, and the words you choose to share about yourself or your place. We turn your town or postcode into rough coordinates so we can say how far a place is.

Private details — your phone number (optional) and date of birth. The phone number is shared only after a mutual match; the date of birth is never shown to anyone and is used only to check you are 16 or over and for age rules on particular work.

Conversations — your chats with Someo and your messages with matches (visible only to the two of you).

Billing — for businesses, records of listing payments. Card details are entered on Stripe's pages and never stored by us.

Safety logs — if something tries to reach a person before a mutual match, or to steer Someo off course, we keep a short record of it (including a snippet of what was typed) so we can keep the platform safe.

Someo is an AI. When you chat with it, what you write is sent to a model run by one of the providers listed below. The model suggests which traits fit you and drafts a short description. That picture, together with what you said you'd enjoy and how far you'd travel, decides which places and people are introduced to each other and in what order.

This is profiling. We do it because it is the service you asked for when you joined (the legal basis is performing our contract with you), and because you agreed to it when you created your account. It never decides anything on its own: an introduction is only ever a suggestion, every match needs both sides to say yes, and no one is turned down by Someo. You approve every word before a place sees it, you can change your traits and description at any time, and you can ask a person to review any outcome by writing to privacy@someo.uk.

To introduce people and places whose traits genuinely overlap; to show each side the profile the other approved; to keep the platform safe (including logging blocked contact attempts); to take payments from businesses; and to send the notifications you've chosen. Fit is always expressed in descriptive language — we never publish numeric ratings of people.

Nobody sees your contact details before a mutual match, and we never sell personal data. A few companies process data on our behalf so the service works:

• Anthropic, OpenAI or Google (whichever model provider is configured) — reads your chats with Someo to draft your traits and the words you approve. Data may be processed in United States.
• Stripe — takes card payments from businesses; we never see card numbers. Data may be processed in United States and Ireland.
• Resend — sends our emails. Data may be processed in United States.
• postcodes.io — turns a town or postcode into rough coordinates so we can say how far a place is. Data may be processed in United Kingdom.
• Our hosting provider — runs the site and stores the database, encrypted at rest. Data may be processed in European Union or United Kingdom.

Where a provider is outside the UK, transfers rest on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, or on an adequacy decision where one applies.

Your profile, chats and matches stay while your account is open. Delete your account and all of it goes at once — profile, traits, chats with Someo, messages, matches, and the safety logs that name you. Payment records for businesses are kept for six years because tax law requires it. Emails we sent you are kept by our email provider for a short time for delivery troubleshooting.

We never sell your personal data. We never show your contact details before a mutual match. We never share your private chats with Someo with any place. We never tell a business you dismissed their invitation — and we never send rejection notices about you to anyone.

You can see and edit everything on your profile, switch your visibility (Active, Taking a break, Keep me updated, or Hidden) at any time, and delete your account yourself from Account & privacy on your profile. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to have a person review any outcome, by writing to privacy@someo.uk. We answer within a month.

If you're not happy with how we've handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd rather you told us first, but you don't have to.

Someo is for people aged 16 and over. We ask for a date of birth during onboarding and don't accept younger sign-ups. If you think someone under 16 has an account, tell us and we'll remove it.

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access inside the team is limited and audited, and every route that could reveal personal information passes through a single, tested visibility layer. If we ever learn of a breach affecting you, we'll tell you promptly and plainly.
